FCS Project 3 - Mission Rubber Company DK Enterprises worked with Mission Rubber Company and its technical and material testing service providers to assist Mission Rubber Company in developing numerous sizes of the SUMO No Hub Coupling products. The Sumo No Hub Couplings join all kinds of pipes ordinarily used in sewer applications. The assistance was to ensure the eight sizes of couplings (1 ½”, 2”, 3”, 4”, 5”, 6”, 8” and 10”) met the needed criteria. Mission Rubber designed the SUMO No Hub Coupling due to its customers requesting a thicker coupling than their Heavyweight Coupling. While the current Heavyweight Coupling met ASTM C-1540 standards, a thicker shield would be stronger and meet the stricter requirements of FM-1680. The SUMO Coupling has the ability of withstanding the internal hydrostatic pressures often encountered in today’s drainage systems. The SUMO Couplings are intended to be installed in high-risk constructions such as hospitals, data centers, loose soil conditions and areas of high seismic activity .
