Glossary of Terms
Adhesive: A substance capable of holding materials together by surface attachment.
ASTM International: An international standards organization that develops and publishes voluntary consensus technical standards by a wide range of materials, products, systems and services. Crumb Rubber: Crumb rubber particles ranging in size less than ¼ “and typically larger than 40 mesh. End-of-Life (EOL) : In the context of manufacturing and product lifecycles, end of life is the final stages of a product’s existence. EOL Management: The systematic approach to managing the series of changes a product goes through, from its design and development to its ultimate retirement or disposal.
EPDM Rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber ) : A type of synthetic rubber.
Feedstock Conversion: Replace virgin rubber, plastic or other material with recycled tire rubber. Ground Tire Rubber (GTR): Recycled tire rubber which has been ground into small particles to use as an asphalt modified.
Micronized Rubber: Crumb rubber particles ranging in size 40 mesh or finer.
Recycle: A series of activities by which material that has reached the end of its current use is processed into material and utilized in the production of new products. Processing typically involves removal of contaminants and/or size reduction to satisfy specifications. Example: The infill is recovered from a synthetic turf field during deconstruction. The infill is processed to remove rock, dirt and other contaminants; graded and tested to satisfy mesh size and distribution specifications; and then used as a feedstock to make a new product. Tire-derived Material (TDM): Sized reduced tire rubber that may be used as a feedstock material to manufacturer products and/or other applications.
Tire-derived Product (TDP): Products that are manufactured utilizing recycled tire rubber.
