DK Enterprises worked with Shaw Sports Turf California “Shaw” , one of the largest sports field installers, and the FCS technical and material testing service providers for this project. The project includes the extraction of the crumb rubber infill from an old field using specialty equipment and then recycling the crumb rubber in an end-of-life application referred to as an intermixed base layer. Turf field bases are typically made with virgin crushed stone aggregate. The initial extraction process places the infill into windrows across the aggregate base. The windrows are leveled uniformly and then the layer is intermixed with the aggregate, using a specified tilling apparatus. Once intermixed, the base layer is laser graded and rolled. Through this process, the crumb rubber is used as a feedstock conversion material to replace the aggregate and intermix the crumb rubber and aggregate through the installation system.
